Description

Madness: Project Nexus is a side-view action game based on the Flash animation series Madness Combat. The game has two modes, Story Mode and Arena Combat Mode.

In the Story Mode the player controls several different characters, assaulting enemy bases in a mission to stop the nefarious Project Nexus. The mode consists of a series of stages across two episodes. Each stage has a specific goal which must be completed to finish the level. The stages are filled with enemies of various kinds, ranging from lowly grunts to zombies and giant bosses. All enemies in a given room must be killed before the room can be exited.

The player can use a wide variety of melee weapons and guns, and can pick up weapons dropped by enemies or found in the environment. The player can activate bullet-time for a limited time; this depletes the bullet-time meter which can be recharged by killing enemies. Additionally, the player can duck behind obstacles to fire at enemies safely.

The health system is twofold. In addition to a classic health bar, the player has a "tac-bar" which represents their ability to dodge shots. The "tac-bar" is slowly depleted by enemy attacks, and once it runs out further attacks reduce the player's health. The "tac-bar" regenerates automatically over time.

In the Arena Combat Mode the player faces wave after wave of increasingly stronger enemies. Killing the enemies grants experience points and money. In-between the waves and after dying, the player can spend money on weapons, armor and stylish gear, as well as spend points to increase the stats of his character. Money can also be spent to hire allies who will fight on the player's side during arena skirmishes.
