Faeland
Official Description (Ad Blurb)
Take on the role of skilled hunter, Sam, in Faeland, an adventure RPG set in a beautiful world inspired by 8-bit classics.
Traverse through the expansive world of Faeland, making your way through forests, caves, dungeons and castles. As you unlock new abilities, revisit old haunts to explore previously inaccessible areas hiding deep secrets. Along the way, you will create enemies and make friends. You will be equipped with a full arsenal of weapons, but choose carefully as your choice will impact your combat speed and strengths.
Humans have established their kingdom through centuries of peace efforts while maintaining a safe boundary, away from the dark forces of magic and monstrous beasts that lurk just beyond civilization. Sam, a young hunter, lives in a secluded cottage deep in the forest. When Sam’s home is raided by a horde of trolls and orcs, he is forced to escape with little, but his life. As Sam’s journey to a new home begins, unbeknownst to him, a larger threat looms in the background, and the entire realm’s survival will rest upon him becoming the hero he was born to be.
In Faeland as the player, you can freely explore the open world, traveling from one town to another, talk to friendly NPCs, learn about the game’s lore and get useful tips, commerce valuable items to improve your economics, buy new equipment and consumables and take on quests to acquire useful loot while progressing in the main story. Some of the areas you need to traverse are challenging forests, caves, dungeons, castles and more. You also have to acquire new abilities and special items to gain access to previously inaccessible areas and paths. The combat style is customized through your equipped weapons, choose from knives, daggers, swords, axes, spears and bows, all with different attack animations, speeds, strengths and effects.
- Diverse Arsenal. Choose from a wide range of weapons, all of which impact attack animation, speed, strengths, and effects.
- Skill Scrolls. Acquire new abilities throughout your journey by receiving scrolls via exploration or as a reward for solving heroic quests.
- Impactful Customization. Show off your shiny new gear while also benefiting from the added strength and protection of different tunics and clothing gear, shields, gadgets, weapons and mythical tools that will support the hero in his journey.
- Classic-Inspired Pixel Graphics. Detailed and handmade pixel art animations and environments in an "enhanced 16-Bit" expose wide color palettes, widescreen resolutions and fluid animations resulting in a contemporary and appealing art style.

One of the most beautiful Metroidavania style games I've ever played!
The Good
The story of the game is interesting and you can see that it draws on the influences of classic medieval fantasy epic books. I love the retro 8 and 16-bit feel that the game offers, so much so that sometimes it feels like I'm playing a remake of the NES classic Zelda II, or Faxanadu (NES) and even Jordan Mechner's Prince of Persia (PC).
The graphics, the design of the environments, the animations and all the Pixelart in general are luxurious, the game is so beautiful that sometimes you stop to see all the details. The music is another thing to highlight, it's really good, and it's reminiscent of those SNES chiptunes, specifically it's very reminiscent of Chrono Trigger. The game flows easily, it does not become boring, since like Metroidvania at last, it has its RPG touches, and you will have to return to the areas where you could not access before, you also have the sub-missions of the NPCs of the towns, which upon completion they will give you prizes or money. The other good thing is the number of actions that the protagonist performs, from swimming, hooking on the corners of the platforms, slowly descending the walls, sliding, double jumping, attacking in various directions whether on the ground or in the air, etc as well as the variety of weapons, shields, armor (clothes) and items. In short, a great game that is a little different from the other Metroidvanias.
The Bad
I think the weak point is the difficulty, I think the game is somewhat easy, if the difficulty was a little higher, the game would be more challenging. Although the boss fights have a medium level of difficulty, they will be a piece of cake for more veteran and expert players.
The Bottom Line
A great Metroidvania style game with a Zelda II flavor from the NES. A beautiful game visually and artistically, with good playability, doses of RPG and fun times. If you like games with that classic retro feel from the 8 and 16-bit era, this is your game. A game that, due to its easy-medium difficulty, will appeal to both adults and children, in short, a Metroidvania for all ages. Don't let it go!
