Freedom: Diegesis

Freedom: Diegesis is a sidescrolling horror puzzle platformer. Princess Remedea of the western kingdom has been kidnapped. The player, a disgraced prisoner, has been charged with braving the horrors of the Eastern Lands to get her back and earn their freedom. The adventure soon begins to unravel disturbing truths about reality.

The player can move, jump, push blocks, and pick up objects to solve puzzles that allow them to reach the end of the level, marked by a flag. If the player dies or presses the level reset button, they start the level again from the beginning. Certain segments switch to a top-down view where the player can talk to NPCs and complete various test minigames.

The game makes various references to Mario games in its aesthetics and mechanics, such as the ability to pick up and throw enemies in an identical manner to Mario 2. As the game progresses, the storylines from the sidescrolling and top-down segments begin to merge, and gameplay mechanics from one segment appear in the other.
